Why do we celebrate Easter ....

Firstly let me say that Easter is NOT about chocolate eggs, bunnies, fluffy chicks, however nice these may be.

It's about much more than this!
It's about God showing us how much he loves you
each and every one of you (and me).

God sent his son Jesus to live on earth to tell us about God's love and to forgive us for the bad things we have done.

Jesus died on the cross.

Jesus didn't come as an earthly king with a crown and a magnificent palace but as the son of a carpenter. He lived in a country which was occupied by a foreign power, he was a refugee, he was homeless.

On the Thursday before Easter we think about how Jesus was betrayed by a friend , arrested, put on trial and sentenced to death.

On Good Friday Jesus was abused, tortured and finally nailed to a wooden cross and left to die. This was one of the ways the Roman authorities used to execute people. It was an extremely painful and very slow way to die.

But Jesus did this for you and for me.

Jesus' grave
was empty.

After his Jesus' death his friends took his body to be buried in a cave. A large stone was place over the entrance to the cave. The Roman authorities also put an armed guard at the cave to stop anyone taking the body away.

On Easter Sunday some of Jesus' friends came to the grave to find it empty. Jesus had overcome the powers of evil. God had raised Jesus from the dead. He was alive again.

This is good news for us. We can still know God's love for us. He is still willing to forgive the bad things we have done. Jesus will show us the way.

Would you like God to forgive the bad things you may have done and would like to know more of God's love for you?

No ifs, no buts!
Right here!
Right now!
And it's free!

There is a massive party going on in heaven. When we celebrate at Easter time we are joining in with this heavenly party.
