You will probably recognise these book covers: The Word On The Street and the Street Bible both written by Rob Lacey. We have used them a lot in our meetings.

A trip on the Vigilant

Sunday 17th May was an interesting day!

Roadworks closed the road to the marina and the town centre car park was short stay only, but more importantly it was RAINING with GALE FORCE WINDS.

Undaunted we set out on our adventure, the weather did not dampen our spirits. However the weather worsened and our voyage had to be cut short as the Skipper & Crew of the Vigilant were not only aware of the discomfort of their passengers but worried that the Vigilant itself might be damaged.

So we returned to harbour. I know that John (who is not a good sailor at the best of times) was feeling quite seasick and was glad to stand on solid ground again.

A big thank you goes to the Skipper & Crew of the Vigilant for the very warm welcome they gave us, for their skill in sailing us through the bad weather and bringing us safely to the shore again. Thank you!

Creation Psalms

We wrote Psalms praising and worshiping God who created all things. And here they are:

Psalm 151
A song to the Creator. Of Holly.

O God you made the wondrous earth,
Creator God thank you for the natural beauty.
Lord, you are amazing.
O God you made humankind,
Creator God, thank you for clever brains.
Lord you are tremendous.

Psalm 152
A song to the Creator. Of Chris.

O God you made all things beautiful.
Creator God thank you for life.
Lord you are loving.
O God you made the galaxy.
Creator God thank you for water and food.
Lord you are loving.

Psalm 153
A song to the Creator. Of Caroline.

O God you made everything,
whether it is good or bad,
it makes our lives more special.

World Hero Award

During a recent session we posed the question "who do you think deserves to win the World Hero Award". Here are the nominations (in no particular order):

Florence Nightingale who did what she did as a woman in a male dominated society.
Emily Pankhurst who campaigned to get women the right to vote.
Nelson Mandela because he fought for racial equality and didn't give up.
Mums & Dads for more reasons than we have space to list here.
a Sister who is a nurse.
a Granddad because he became what he wanted to be.
another Granddad who was a soldier in the 2nd World War.
Shrek because he brings out the best in people.
Daniel Craig as James Bond he fights against evil.
Woofy (not his real name) a dog who has saved people.
William Booth founder of the Salvation Army working for those in need.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer a German Lutheran pastor and theologian who participated in the German Resistance movement against the Nazis.

We also asked who they would put on the fourth plinth in London's Trafalgar Square:

Woofy because animal bravery often goes unrecognised.
The Unknown Soldier to bring these issues into the open again.
Walt Disney because he makes dreams come true.
Queen Elizabeth
or Queen Victoria
for their leadership and faith.
God but this has already been done. See below!

Ecce homo
(John 19:5)

Mark Wallinger created a statue representing Jesus at his trial before Pontius Pilate which occupied Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth during 1999.

He called the statue Ecce Homo which means “Behold the Man” or “Here is the man” the words Pilate used when he told the crowd that he could find no charge against Jesus.

Read the account of Jesus' trial by Pontius Pilate online.

Manifesto

Just before Christmas we came up with a "manifesto" and here it is:

Treat others as you would like to be treated.

Sharing happiness is the key to heaven.

Ask yourself "If I get it do other people loose it"?

Don't only help people who can help you back.

Here is a little about ourselves:

The Room4 People came into existence out of a Youth Alpha Course at Palace Avenue Methodist Church.

Room4 People's Church (PAMC Outdoor Division)
(Matthew 8:23)

At the end of the course the young people, all of secondary school age, decided that they wanted to continue to meet as there were many, many more questions that needed to be explored.

So we continue to meet. Not everyone is able to make it to every session but we still meet and explore the questions that life poses.

Our usual meeting place, our Church, is in Room 4; but we have held Church on a dry ski slope, in a canoe on the river Dart and at Crealy Great Adventure Park.

On a recent trip to Crealy Great Adventure Park we decided on a new name for the group and that new name is:.....

Unidentified Christian Youth
